Vocational Training Center (VTC)
The Vocational Training Center (VTC) was founded in 1996 as a way to create employment opportunities for youth during the conflict. Over the years, the VTC has trained over 3500 students, including hundreds of former fighters, to support their entry into the workforce. The VTC has over 20 different courses that have been accredited by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka.

"At the VTC I gained foundational knowledge about computers through practical experience. I was also able to complete an internship through this program — which was a great opportunity to see how I could use my skills in the workforce. The VTC also provided English classes and extra-curricular activities, which were very complimentary to my studies."
Sathanraj, Age 27
"I learned the theory for the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) examination at school, but they did not have the facilities for us to complete practical training. So I took a 3 week program at the VTC to complete over 30 practice modules. It would have been hard to pass the NVQ practical examination without the VTC’s hands-on training. Now I am getting a degree in civil engineering through the help of the Scholarship Program."
